#24 – Elderberry Pomegranite
Bottled (19) 325ml and (5) 750ml (from 3 gallons) at 19% ABV on 9 September 2012.
I had some elderberries and some pomegranate juice left over from some other experiments, and figured I had just enough left to make a couple gallons of wine… The result is delicious, a good balance between the two flavors, and a beautiful clear dark-red-violet color. Good thing I have my notes — I’ll be trying to repeat this batch!
Revisited the 2013 reserve bottle on 14 April 2014… It’s still got its clear dark red-violet color, there’s no sediment at all in the bottle. The nose is mostly of elderberries (though that may be just my familiarity with that fruit), and while that does carry through to the flavor, I think that’s where the pomegranate comes into play. Still very delicious, and the next batch is too! 😉
