#26 – Rainier Cherry
Bottled (22) 325ml and (6) 750ml (from 5 gallons) at 20.5% ABV on 21 October 2012.
The other half of the cherries I bought via charity were Rainier cherries. I would have been remiss if I hadn’t at least attempted to make wine out of our iconic Washington cherry! Whereas the Bing cherries are deep red (as is the wine made from them), Rainier cherries are more orange/blush/yellow colored — and predictably, the result is a wine that’s amber colored. There was apparently also not as much sugar in the Rainier cherries, so it only reached 20.5% ABV and finished drier with a little bit of a bite to it.
This wine works well as an aperitif or dessert wine… Perhaps it’d even go well with vanilla ice cream? Hm, I’ll have to try that…
